Attic Insulation

If your insulation was installed before 1975 it was only required to be 4"to 6" thick to give you an R-factor of R-11, since then the cost of energy has tripled and so has the requirements for all your insulation. One of the easiest things to improve on is the insulation quality of your home. Adding attic insulation so it comes up to the new minimum standards of R-38 can be done by having a new 8" to 12" layer of insulation blown-in on top of your old insulation. R 38 is 16" thick and R 49 is 20" thick using fiberglass insulation.

This is done by taking a large hose through your attic access and blowing the insulation to the desired thickness. This is a process that requires a truck, blower and special know-how to go up into the attic and get an even layer throughout your attic.

After installing vents from your soffit to the attic to keep your attic ventilation working properly, we then install the new insulation in the attic without blocking any of these vents. We have learned that you must have the proper mixture of ventilation and insulation to insure no condensation or mold forms in the attic or insulation, damaging your home or causing health problems. Climate Pro blow-in fiberglass attic insulation is formaldehyde free, contains NO Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is a safe non-combustible Sulfate Free & Odorless material to have in your home.

Climate Pro blow-in fiberglass insulation has a white cotton like texture which gets into the hard to reach places. It will not settle or absorb moisture, is non-combustible, will not rot or decay. Provides an excellent opportunity to recycle glass. Johns Manville uses 30% recycled glass content to make there fiberglass insulation . What is not made of recycled glass is made of sand, an abundant and rapidly renewable resource. It also contains NO fire retardant chemicals which cause odors, corrode attic pipes, wires and will melt but not burn or support combustion.

Cellulose blow-in insulation, is ground up newspaper & has been Treated with Sodium Borate & Boric Acid that are Fire Retardants chemicals (It is not fireproof) and also repels rodents, insects and mold. Cellulose is made of 75% recycled newspaper and it uses One Half the Energy to Manufacture. It is heavier than fiberglass so it should not be used over fiberglass. Gets into the hard to reach places like any blown in product but deteriorates and causes dust.

Do not use fiberglass Insulation that has formaldehyde based adhesive or contains sulfates it is not a green or safe product.
Weatherstripping
Have your whole house feel warmer and stop the bone chilling drafts and cold floors just by getting Thermal Specialties to install top of the line maintenance free weatherstripping to your front door and maybe some weatherstripping is needed on your side, back or basement door. It will look great and save you money on your heat and air conditioning, you might not feel the drafts in the summer but they are still costing you money by letting heat in and air conditioning out.
